Task 4: Pitch your ideas

Learning outcome  3 (U21): Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions. (P4, M3)

This is the link for my final and updated presentation -

During my presentation i was pitching my idea for a new music magazine in North London. I received a large amount of feedback on my presentation which are potential questions that the client could have asked. I have now understood the feedback that i was given and understand the changes that need to be made to meet the given target brief.

Questions that were asked in my feedback -

How often are you going to publish the magazine?
Answer:  was originally going to publish weekly however we did more research into it an decided that we should publish it monthly rather than weekly. We realised that there wouldn't be enough content to put inside the magazine. We are going to focus on new artists swell as gigs, events and about the jazz genre.

Colour choices: red white and black for your house style colour, what was the reasoning behind this?
I chose my main colour to be red because it works well with the genre of jazz as we researched jazz and there was a lot of red tones. Black and white were really neutral and made it a really modern tone.

Did you look at newsstands in other shops to see what competition you had for the front cover?
I was told that i should be careful with the colour red being my main colour because there are so many other magazines with red front covers such as OK and Heat magazine. I responded with this saying that it shouldn't make much difference because my magazine is targeted towards a niche audience and is not a gossip magazine. He said that people may get mixed up with it being another type of magazine.

Why did you choose three different font styles? -
I had three different types of font styles on my front cover. I chose this because i wanted the main font and the font down the side to be bold and eye catching however the font down the side is slightly different to my main font. This is because the bolder text down the side looked squashed together and didn't suit the positioning or was it was trying to say. The font that says 'The 3 Notes' is in a swirly font. This is because the 3 notes are a new jazz band and the swirls work with the fact that they are a new and upcoming jazz bands and the font style works well with the picture behind the font.

£2.50 and glossy paper? will this work?
The idea of having a glossy magazine won't work very well purely because a glossy paper will be expensive to buy for many copies of magazines each month. We wanted the magazine to be £2.50 which is a reasonable price, however having glossy paper will increase the price of the magazine. Further research will have to be taken up on the pricing of different styler papers to match the correct style and correct price for our magazine and for the price of our magazine.

Audience? How do you think you can get people interested in your magazine?
We have a very niche audience, so the majority of our target audience are going to be jazz fans and are going to be the people that attend jazz events and gigs. However we are going to have as much advertisement as possible to try and bring other people into reading our magazine.
